S6 Office Bearers
We are delighted to announce that the following candidates have been chosen as this year’s S6 Office Bearers for Wallace Hall Academy: Head Boy – Edward Smith, Head Girl – Olivia Andreasen, Depute Head Boy –Lewis Fergusson and Depute Head Girl – Tilly Wilson Machin. Matthew Johnstone was also appointed as this year’s Prefect Leader.
Due to Covid restrictions not allowing a traditional election process, candidates were asked to submit a video of themselves telling the selection panel why they wanted the role, what skills and qualities they could bring to the role and how they could have a positive impact on our school. Six boys (Josh Cooper, Lewis Fergusson, Rory Gordon, Matthew Johnstone, Edward Smith and Ben True) and eight girls (Olivia Andreasen, Megan Black, Sorcha Corrigan, Hannah Kate Fisher, Anya Graham, Sarah Hastings, Bailie Paterson, and Tilly Wilson-Machin) threw their hats into the ring for consideration.
A panel comprising of Mr Graham, Head Teacher, Mr Blair, Depute Head Teacher, Louise Cochran, Chair of Wallace Hall Parent Council and Ted Bowie, last year’s Head Boy, had the task of selecting from fourteen very innovative and creative presentations that really showcased the young people’s individual skills and qualities. Each of the candidates put a lot of thought, time and effort into producing some very creative videos and the panel had a very difficult job choosing. After much deliberation and discussion, the panel chose six candidates to go forward to the interview stage. The panel held the interviews via Microsoft Teams and all the applicants came over confidently and naturally in this virtual forum, testimony to how well our pupils have coped with the challenges of online learning.
Barry Graham, Head Teacher at Wallace Hall Academy, said: “I would like to thank all the applicants for participating in the Head Boy/Head Girl process in such a mature and creative way. Each and every one of them was a credit to their families, to our school and to our community. I am very much looking forward to working closely with Edward, Olivia, Lewis, Tilly and Matthew this academic session.”
Mr Blair added: “Our S6 office bearers are a key part of our school and I believe this year’s team will continue the excellent example set by teams from previous years. All of the candidates conducted themselves extremely well throughout the process and I look forward to assisting Edward, Oliva, Lewis, Tilly and Matthew in taking forward all the good ideas they brought to the table in their excellent videos and interviews.
