A Master of Martial Arts
Congratulations to Brodie Hawkins who won a gold medal at the Scottish Brazilian Jui Jitsu Championships held in Kilmarnock on Sunday 20th March. Brodie started learning his art in 2019. He currently trains with a couple of clubs but his main training focus is with the Radgie Rollers, a Martial Arts school based in Carlisle. This isn’t Brodie’s first success in the sport; he won two silver medals in the Junior European Championships held in Wolverhampton last September, winning his first fight by submission and his remaining match on points.
Brodie said: “BJJ is my passion. I spend every spare minute practising and making myself improve as much as I can. I was over the moon to win the gold medal on Sunday. I had to wait a while for my fight to start but I ended up 7-points ahead, finishing with a submission.”
Barry Graham, Head Teacher at Wallace Hall, said: “I am delighted that Brodie is enjoying his Jui Jitsu and reaping the rewards of his commitment and dedication to improving his skills. Medals at this level of competition are hard fought – well done Brodie.”
