Activities for All

Activities Week always provides opportunities for our students to step outside their normal learning environment, and this year was no exception.

Mr Corrigan, Principal Teacher of Design & Technology who organised the three days of events, explained how he tries to achieve a balance that is accessible to everyone: “Activities Week has provided a stimulating end to our annual timetable, where we all see ourselves in a different setting. We, as staff, get a chance to see talents of the young people we work with which we may otherwise be unaware of.

“Forty-two events were offered over the three days, with a mixture of familiar and new activities. For the first time in many years we had to cope with some poor weather during Activities Week. An exciting new event for this year took place at Falkirk’s Xtreme Laser Tag Complex, where Dr Fulton led a group who battled it out in a huge forest setting. Feedback after this event was fantastic and wet weather on the day came nowhere near dampening everyone’s enthusiasm.

Activities Week would not run as successfully as it does without the co-operation of the whole school community, and I am massively appreciative of everybody’s participation. We also enjoy the generous support of our community, such as with Thornhill Golf Club offering a round of golf without charge.

This year a number of events were organised by one of our S6 pupils, Freya Donald, who acted as Events Co-ordinator for the year. This will have been a real challenge but a great experience for her, and she was able to enrol the help of a number of our senior pupils to assist with some of the in-school events such as rugby and hockey.

Overall, Activities Week was a fun and stimulating time for all involved. Everybody stepped out of their usual comfort zones for three days and hopefully took away some great memories as well as their wet clothes!”
